The number of suicides among US soldiers has risen over the last ten years with an increase of 18% compared to last year. In the first 155 days of 2012 there have been 154 suicides among active troops, about double the number of soldiers killed in Afghanistan. There are a couple of possible reasons for the rise of suicides, for example post-traumatic stress, misuse of drugs and financial problems. Despite the effort to encourage making soldiers look for mental help the number of suicides is still rising. This is due to the taboo of seeking for help among military. They think seeking for mental help is a sign of weakness and may effect a possible promotion.

This news is horrible to read but does not come as a big surprise to be honest. US military, and all military in a war zone like Afghanistan are probably damaged for the rest of their life. Not all military can cope with their experiences and therefore should get mental help from a psychiatrist. To get over the pride thing all military should go every once in a time mandatorily to a psychiatrist. Still I do not think this is the solution, because I think the only solution to his problem is to get all troops back from Afghanistan and end this mission.
